UM team gets ready to run Liverpool half-marathon for the Samaritans

Posted on 4 March, 2024

A team from UM Group are busy with their final training for this year’s Liverpool Half-Marathon, which they are running in memory of much-loved colleague Lynn McCoy and to raise vital funds for the Samaritans.

Those taking part on Sunday, March 17 are Phil McEvoy, MD UM Terminals, Simon Markham, Head of Molasses GB, Mark Few, Operations Manager, James Robson, Control Room Operator, Jake Ellis, Maintenance Manager, Lewis Chambers, Supervisor and Emma Holding, Commercial Assistant.

Phil, who is also taking part in the London Marathon in April, said: “I’m really looking forward to the half-marathon and raising money for such an important cause and in memory of Lynn. It will also be great to run with colleagues from across the UM Group. Hopefully the weather will hold out and we’ll have a successful day.”

Simon, who is also running the London Marathon a few weeks later, said: “It’s been really good to see so many colleagues wanting to run the half-marathon as part of our remembering Lynn and raise some much-needed money for the Samaritans who do such great work helping people in need of emotional support.”

Money raised from the half-marathon will support the work of the Samaritans of Liverpool and Merseyside, a charity that is there 365 days of the year, day or night, to help people who are struggling to cope.

The Liverpool branch of the Samaritans is the second oldest in the UK having been supporting people for over 60 years. The charity’s listening service is delivered entirely by over 130 dedicated volunteers along with a paid development manager and administrator.

Lynn McCoy was UM Terminals’ Client Central Services Manager and had worked for the company for over 30 years.

Following the half-marathon, runners, families, friends and colleagues from UM Group will join Lynn’s family for a lunch to remember her.
